Malta
Welcome to the Maltese I SHOP FAIR network of ethical consumers
Who are the people behind a product?
Are the producers paid well?
Can the producers join a trade union in their country?
What about the consumers? How can consumers contribute towards a more sustainable economy? How can a consumer be well-informed?
If you are fed up that worker rights are constantly violated in the producing countries of the south
If you are fed up that many workers in the factories producing for the European markets are physically and psychologically abused and do not receive a salary that allows them to life a decent life
Than become an activist for I SHOP FAIR!
I SHOP FAIR is an initiative, funded by the European Union, and represented by Koperattiva Kummerċ Ġust. The aim of the I SHOP FAIR network is to inform consumers as well as the media about the situation of workers in the countries of the South with a particular focus on the Garment, Toys, Computer, and Flower industry. It asks fundamental questions about worker rights and tries to answer them by engaging various activities. In fact, in the coming three years we will organize a number of activities that will focus on garment, IT, toys and flowers in respective order.
We will have 4 seminars on each and every product. People from various countries who produce the above-mentioned products will come to Malta. They will raise awareness about the products, about their conditions and ultimately how can consumers be empowered to make the right choice.
We will also organize other seminars and street activities on various topics such as art campaigning management, ethical consumption and training for trainers. You can find out about them on this website.
We will also send out newsletters and create a manual on ethical consumption and postcards and leaflets on each product. These will help in raising awareness.
I SHOP FAIR will:
- Provide consumers with information pertaining to the working conditions in factories in the countries of the South
- support consumers in asserting their power over companies in order to achieve a more socially and ecologically sustainable economy
- raise awareness about the problematic impact the prevalent working conditions have on humanity and the environment
- support workers, trade unionists and NGOs through concrete activities (protest letters to companies and governments)
- put pressure on companies to take responsibility for their whole production chain ensuring that their goods are produced under decent working condition
As you can see we have already created this website. We will update the homepage whenever we are organizing an activity and we will also keep you updated via e-mail and facebook.
